Leaders and Followers

Down the path I walk
Step by step
Sometimes following
And other times leading
Never doing just one
Because what if
By chance
I took a wrong turn
Went the wrong way
And what if
By going the wrong way
Something horrible happens
Whether to me
For following
Or to others
Because I led them
So when I'm lost
I follow behind
And learn the way
And when I know
The path we walk
I will step forward
And teach them the way
Because I know
I'm not always right
And I know
The same is true for others
Leaders may lead
Followers may follow
But the best thing to do
Is to do both

Photo Response

In this Writing Workshop we were shown a picture and told to write something about it. In this picture there were two people, a man yelling on his cell in the background and in the front was a women in a red dress putting on red lipstick walking away. I wrote on poem and showed my teacher, she liked it and told me to try to make another one for it with the time I had left in class. Here is what I wrote.

Poem #1

Angry words are far behind me
Yelling
Screaming
I'm done with it
I'll become someone
I never was before
I'll put on my red dress
And the lipstick to match
I'll walk away
I wont go back
I go through the front door
And I hear him yell
That it wont be long
Until I return
Maybe that's true
It has happened before
But maybe today is the day
That I leave for sure
I'm tired of this
The arguing
The fighting
I want to be free of it
I want to find a place
That is full of peace
I want to go
Where I have never been before
I want to b somewhere
Where I can be free

Poem #2

Its time for the party
Time to get ready
But there's to much noise
He's yelling at someone on his phone
Probably
From work
He'll probably have to go again
And leave me by myself
Alone
Not that I care
Not like I have anything better to do
Not like I don't love him
Not like I miss him
Not like I cry when he's gone
But...
Maybe I do
But he never needs to know that
I'll let him believe I'm happy
Let him believe I'm fine
Maybe one day he will see everything
And come to hold me
Until the tears go away
But until then
I will pretend
That peace reigns

Nature's Place (Recently edited)

The lights go out
The world falls asleep
Now is Nature's time
Finally she can take back
What was once stolen
Her beauty
Which was once everywhere
For all to see
Now is hidden
And wants to be found
Have you ever wandered into the night?
No?
Let her tempt you
Into seeing her beauty
The glowing moon is brighter now
Bringing light
To what was once only shadows
The distant stars
Sparkle
Giving hope in dark times
The brush of wind across your cheek
Caressing as a lover's touch
Your eyes close
Reaching out for a hand
Feeling the warmth
As though it was never there
Their pulse quickens
They feel it too
The gentle rustling of the leaves
Do you hear what the world whispers?
She speaks to you and me
Silently as the wind
Pleading for you to hear
What needs to be heard
"Let me be wild
Let me be free
Let me be beauty
That all can see
Let me grow
Let me spread
Let me find peace
Or else I'll be dead
You may need me
But I don't need you
Once I'm gone
You will be too
So stay by my side
Take what I give
Return to me
And in peace we'll live."
As the world goes silent
Your heart stills
Searching for more words
That will never be spoken
As the lights come on
The world wakes up.

Pride in Self

Find pride in yourself
In all you do
Make no regrets
Just be you
What you think may matter
What others say may not
But listen to their words
What they say may help alot
Be proud of who you are
Never change for others
Do what you love and be happy
And you will make proud your mothers
